History

History:The figure is of a dancer in the role of Spartacus, from the ballet by Khachaturian (1903 - 1978).
Inspired by the Bolshoi Ballet performance in London at the time. The presentation occurred following a chance meeting of Merrifield and John Gale, the then Director of the CFT, at a Health Farm. Merrifield's career as a dancer was terminated when he broke his leg.
