Description: | An obelisk set on a two-stepped stone base. The middle section of the obelisk has red granite tablets set into the stone that are inscribed. The base of the obelisk, facing east, bears the town council arms of an anchor and a bridge that was added in 2007 along with a bronze plaque and the names of the fallen from WWII on the north and south faces. The west face of the base is empty. The tapering top section has at its apex a celtic style circular cross and a metal wreath affixed below it. |
Inscription: | THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF NEWHAVEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR KING AND COUNTRY DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 On a bronze plaque underneath, affixed to the obelisk base: ALSO TO THEIR COMRADES WHO FELL 1939 1945 Carved at the base of the obelisk, top section: THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE |
