History

History:The commission was advertised locally and nationally and attracted a large number of responses. The six shortlisted artists were selected by a panel consisting of representatives of local community organisations including the ''Friends of Alexander Park''. The artists’ brief stated the following:

''In the creation of the artwork the artist is invited to take into consideration the outstanding features of Alexandra Park: natural beauty, historic landscaping, lakes and streams, wildlife etc. They should also be aware of the ethos of the Greenway, promoting access to green spaces, healthy living, environmental awareness and alternatives to motorised transport. The proposed artwork may therefore the overall ethos of the park while firmly looking forward to modern Hastings''

Artists were also asked to recognise that recreational boating will be reintroduced to the lake and to consider how their artwork could interact with this activity.
