Description: | An arched gateway that indicates the entrance to the Millennium Green. The metal gateway comprises 'open' and cut-out elements that depict local industry such as the railway and iron industries and outdoor activities such as walking. Acroos the top of the arch on both sides is written in cut-out letters: Millennium Archway. In the centre of the two words is an oval cutout motif depicting a hatted woman releasing a cuckoo from a basket. |
Iconographical description: | The name of the old railway line, now the 'Cuckoo Trail' comes from the Cuckoo Fair held at Heathfield. Local legend states that an old lady turns up at the annual Cuckoo Fair in April, to release from her basket the first cuckoo of Spring. |
