History
History: | Deare lived in Rome from 1785 onwards after winning a travel scholarship from the Royal Academy. He made several versions of this carving, this one for Sir Cecil Bisshop at Parham being the first. A similar version was made for Sir Richard Worsley Bart. and is in the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles. Deare specialised in reliefs of mythological subjects, often for interior decorative schemes.
