Description: | A Celtic style cross that stands on a stepped plinth, holding inscriptions in raised letters. This rests on a block that in turn rests on a base. The whole structure sits in a paved area. |
Inscription: | TO COMMEMORATE THE PROCLAMATION OF THE ACCESSION OF KING EDWARD VII ON THIS SPOT. ON THE 26TH JANUARY 1901 BY THE MAYOR ALDERMAN F.A. LANGHAM J.P. Raised letters on East side of plinth: THIS CROSS IS ERECTED NEAR THE SITE OF THE OLD MARKET CROSS BY H.C. RICHARDS K.C.. M.P. WHO FORMERLY RESIDED IN THIS PARISH WITH HIS PARENTS. FREDERICK RICHARDS. J.P. AND A. C. E. RICHARDS 1873 -------- 1880 |
