Description:Relief robed portrait of John Johnson sitting reading. He holds a book in his right hand with the left hand resting on a column. The relief surmounts an inscribed base. The monument is mounted high up on the Nave wall.
Inscription:Incised letters, painted black to the front of the monument:

IN THE ADJOINING VAULT
ARE DEPOSITED THE REMAINS
OF A LOVER OF GOD AND MAN
JOHN JOHNSON DD
BORN IN THIS PARISH AND EDUCATED AT WINCHESTER
AFTERWARDS FELLOW OF MAGDALEN COLLEGE OXFORD
AND SIXTEEN YEARS RECTOR OF NORTH CHAPEL.
HIS FELLOWSHIP HE PROMPTLY RESIGNED
RATHER THAN KEEP IT WITH A FORTUNE
AGAINST THE INTENT IF NOT THE LETTER OF THE COLLEGE STATUTE
AND DEVOTED HIS TIME
TO THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS PAROCHIAL DUTIES
AS WELL AS TO AN ASSIDUOUS ATTENDANCE
ON SEVERAL BENEVOLENT INSTITUTIONS
OF LATE ESTABLISHED TO THE HONOUR OF THIS AGE AND COUNTRY
HE DECEASED THE FOURTH DAY OF JULY
IN THE YEAR OF GRACE
