History

History:David Land (22 March 1918, London – 1995)
David Land was the owner of the Theatre Royal, Brighton for over 11 years, having purchased it in 1984. He established the David Land Arts Centre and Studio Theatre. Land lived spent his time between Rottingdean and London. He signed Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber for three years at the beginning of their careers during which time they produced Jesus Christ Superstar. Land was Chairman of the Young Vic between 1983 and 1991. In 1994, the University of Sussex awarded him a Doctorate of Letters.
