Edwin Stirling - Biography
(1819-1867). Born in Scotland, his clay modelling abilities were noticed when still a child and he was apprenticed to a stone carver at Darnick, following which he studied at Edinburgh School of Art. He later settled in Liverpool, first working for, and then working in partnership with, an architectural carver named Canavan. His work outside Liverpool includes the statue for Liverpool architect Edward A. Heffer’s Memorial to the Prince Consort at Hastings (1863) and the statues on the south front of Horton Hall, Cheshire (1867). Stirling is buried in St James Cemetery, Liverpool.
